Visually Impaired Children

Tarjan Singh
Tarjan is a 15 year old severe low vision child [distant vision 2/60] residing in village Rakadeeh of Magarlod block of Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh state. He is staying with his parents and grandparents in a joint family. He was identified by Prerak through a school screening camp organized under CBR project.

Prerak assisted him in getting certificate that helped him in getting railway concession certificate, scholarship and pension. He was clinically assessed and given optical and non-optical devices like magnifier and reading stand. At present, he is studying in 9th standard in government school.

He participated in State level Paralympics in year 2010 and won 2nd rank in 100 meters running, 3rd rank each in shot-put and long jump.Encouraged with this success, he participated in National level Paralympics, 2010 held at Chandigarh and won 3rd rank each in 100 meters running and long jump.

Chhattisgarh state government felicitated him in year 2011 and gave him cash prize of INR 7000.00 [GBP 96*] at the hands of Honourable Chief Minister in a function organized by Sports and Youth Welfare Ministry. Tarjan also participated in year 2011 in State level Paralympics held at Raipur and won 1st rank in 100 meters running and 3rd rank in long jump.
