Activities of Prerak on Disability

Initiating Community Based Rehabilitation Program for the visually impaired person since 2003 to onwards
PRERAK is implementing “Community Based Rehabilitation” programme at Abhanpur block since 2010 to rehabilitate the people, with community eye health programme. Under this different activities related to eye health is conducted such as diagnostics, awareness camp and school screening camp. Under this cataract and refractive error and other eye diseases are found out. Till today 1279 people through 21 diagnostic camps have been benefited and 4236 students have been checked through 41 school screening test. Besides this, efforts are put for making advocacy with the government to avail the economic and social benefits for the purpose of the rehabilitation of the blind and other disabled. In the Early stage Community Based Rehabilitation programme had been implemented in Magarload, Gariaband, Fingeswar and Chhura block by PRERAK. The organization works on the four major components of this program for achieving community based rehabilitation. Preventative and promotive, curative, community based rehabilitation (social and economic) and integrated education. The focused programs and activities are Orientation of village level volunteers [SHG, parents, animators and PRI members], Orientation and Mobility, Cataract Surgery, School Screening, activities for daily living skills, Pre-Braille activities and Braille Education, Socio-economic rehabilitation of disabled persons etc are carried out.
